10 reasons why Chris Gayle is #BigTicketNext

A gentleman’s game they said.

‘Oh, really?’ he said.

Chris Gayle, in his entire career of hitting red and white leather balls into the stands, has defied the common and largely true belief that cricket is a “Gentleman’s Game” with inimitable exploits such as out-Aussieing the Aussies when he gave Michael Clarke a taste of Aussie sledging in their famous encounter in the 2006 Champion’s Trophy.

A man who never cared for the niceties and the pleasantries of life, in cricket and outside, someone who is known to speak his heart, and speak it all, holding nothing back, certainly enjoys the finer luxuries of life.

Such people are rare; few and far between.

Gayle shows us the way to be a hero without having to be the gentleman, a person who is truly rare, not just in cricket, but ever.

It is our firm belief, that it is his firm belief, that conventions have been created by civilization for him to break them, and being the kind of person he is, no one minds him breaking them.

He is a man who once said that he could score a hundred at any condition, and was taken seriously.

He has branded himself with the titles that the cricketing world fondly uses while referring to him – Universe Boss, King Gayle, Super Boss, Gayle Force, Gayle Storm. And his legend grows with every new exploit and title.

But the world of cricket, a world previously of tea-drinkers, well-spoken gentlemen and perfect players, has been changed, forever in the past 20 years or so, with the arrival of legends and the ‘imperfect players’ that love the game, love the people, and want to change it all.

For the better.

A man of unstoppable force, becoming the first batsman ever to reach the 10,000 runs landmark in T20 cricket very recently, is certainly the face of this change, a leader and a pioneer in the ways that cricket is enjoyed.

A man who entertains the crowd with more than just his superb skill, he is a man who entertains people because he can, and because he wants to as can be seen on his social media SitCom “Everybody Rates Chris”.

Here are our top ten reasons why we believe Chris Gayle is #BigTicketNext

Why Test Cricket is #BigTicketNext

blog pic

Here’s wishing you a very happy birthday, Test Cricket. We wonder if you realize what a gift you gave to the world all those many years ago when you pitched England against Australia at the MCG in 1877. Speaking of gifts, we thought your 140th birthday would be a great occasion to list down the very best of the many that have made you Big Ticket Next.

  1. You, dear Test Cricket, gave us the Ashes. Our lives would be a little emptier, and a more than a little shorn of meaning if we didn’t have two great cricketing nations glaring at each other over a tiny urn that is believed to contain the ashes of a burnt cricket ball!
  2. You taught us that no matter what else is happening in life, there is always time for a cup of tea. Teams could be poised tantalizingly at the edge of a last day victory, or hanging on for dear life in the form of numbers 10 and 11 defending their respective wickets; but if it is time for tea, then everyone simply packs up all the tension and gamely troops back into the pavilion for a cuppa. It’s a life lesson, you know. And we thank you for it.
  3. You gave us the unforgettable, epic, immortal sight of Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Colin Croft and Joel Garner steaming in, with more than half the legendary West Indian team standing in the slips. The remaining guy was at gully. The batsmen from opposing teams were terrified. Clive Lloyd’s team of the 1970s and 1980s is one of your greatest gifts to us. When the world becomes a little too much, you’ve made it possible for us to remember these gentle giants and break into wide smiles. So, again, thank you.
  4. You’ve taught us courage. In the bandaged jaw of Anil Kumble as he bowled in the Antigua Test in 2002. In VVS Laxman’s heroics as he single-handedly dominated the Aussies. In a 16 year old Sachin Tendulkar facing the likes of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Abdul Qadir in Pakistan, on debut.
  5. You’ve successfully debunked the myth that we have increasingly lower attention spans. We love seeing the packed stadiums. Like the India V England Test at Mumbai, in December 2016. We loved ticketing that match. The crowds made us so happy! You’ve given us many gifts, Test Cricket. Consider those packed stadiums our gift to you!
  6. You make white super sexy. In the day and age of fluorescent pink tees and neon green laces, there is nothing quite as droolworthy as the men (and women) in pristine white. Our pick of the Test players who rock the white look – Alistair Cook, Virat Kohli, David Gower, Imran Khan, James Anderson, Sir Gary Sobers.
  7. You remain completely incomprehensible to anyone outside the cricketing world. They just don’t get it. 22 players. 5 days. Endless waiting games. Follow ons. Tea breaks. There are even those who get golf. But you? You are the ultimate enigma for those who know you not. And we love you all the more for it.
  8. Floppy hats. Green berets. Neck scarves. Moustaches. Is there anything that you cannot make good looking?
  9. You’ve given us 140 years of strategy, patience, brilliance, perseverance, integrity, competition, ruthlessness, team spirit, sportsmanship. We couldn’t ask for more.
  10. You are, dear Test Cricket, the gentleman’s game. In a world gone a little pedestrian, we need you more than ever before.

Happy birthday, once more. May you have many more!

Watching Cricket At Home vs. Watching it LIVE In The Stadium

A true cricket fan can cross every boundary to see his team play. Be it standing in front of a TV showroom watching the match from the roadside or burning a hole in his/her pocket to book the best view seats in advance, a true cricket fan will make sure that they doesn’t miss even a single ball bowled.
But watching the match live in the stadium has a lot of perks that watching it at home can never compete with. Here’s a list of reasons why you should DEFINITELY watch your favorite cricket match #LIVE on your #BIGTICKET.

1. No more distractions!

The hurdles between you and your favorite sport are stronger with time now. We’re sure you all must have faced those days where you wouldn’t mind trading your kidney to watch the match without any disturbance but there it is that evil distraction, the dog that needs to be walked, the delivery boy who doesn’t have any change or Satan in any other form.
But when you watch the match live from the stands, all such distractions are at bay; you are in your own safe haven.

2. The Team Spirit!

The team spirit in watching the match at the stadium can never match the level of watching it at home with a couple of friends eating chips off your couch. The joy of cheering out loud for your team, hi-fiving strangers on every 6 and letting out a sigh of relief in chorus on a dropped catch of your star batsman is something the comfort of your old couch can’t give you. You got to be there, watching the team sport, with a team.

3. Claim to fame

The cameras on the field pan across the stadium and catch a glimpse of an interesting expression, and then it stays there, watching the ‘lost in the moment’ look change to ‘oh I am on camera’ look. This face gets more TRP than faces on a typical daily soap. How would you like to be there? Flaunting your best expression, as the camera captures you and the crowd around you cheers for you and tries hard to fit in the frame. You’ll enjoy the paparazzi. Won’t you?

4. To be socially aLIVE

People click pictures of their sad little breakfast and you have to sit through watching it and bearing the boredom. Now it’s your turn to give something actually worth looking at to the people on your list. Live tweets, snaps, and Periscope streaming are the in-things in the social media sector and you can only do it when you are watching the match LIVE from the stands on your #BIGTICKET.

5. Despicable You!

Lean in for this one because it is last but certainly not the least, you should watch a match live on your #BIGTICKET because it makes other people envious of you. They wish they were there, like you are, watching your team play it like it never played before. They crave for the adrenaline, the family-like feeling among the strangers supporting the same team and the priceless feeling of going back home feeling like a winner when your team wins.
Take it from us, you will like the feeling because if you have read it this far, you are a true cricket fan and you deserve to watch the best games LIVE.
